What We Do — And What We Don’t Do

ATS what we do

At Advanced Technical Services, we handle NRCS Letters of Authority, ICASA approvals, and SAHPRA certifications. We help importers and manufacturers get their products into South Africa legally and efficiently.
But we are not a freight forwarder. We are not a product sourcing consultancy. And we are not in a position to tell you what you should import.

We get enquiries every week asking us to recommend products, evaluate business ideas, or advise on shipping routes and customs clearing. These are fair questions, but they fall outside our scope. Our expertise is regulatory compliance — specifically, the certifications and approvals required before your goods can be offered for sale in South Africa.

What We Can Help With

If you have a product in mind and want to know whether it falls under NRCS compulsory specifications, we can give you a definitive answer. We can tell you:
  • Whether an LOA is required for your specific product
  • Which IEC standard applies (and therefore which test reports you need)
  • Whether your existing test reports are valid for NRCS submission
  • What the full compliance pathway looks like, from laboratory testing to final approval
This is not a free service. We charge a flat fee of R2,000 for this initial assessment. Here’s why: it takes time to review product specifications, cross-check them against the relevant compulsory specifications and VC schedules, and confirm the exact IEC standard and South African deviations that apply. A quick guess from us helps no one — and could cost you far more if you commission the wrong tests or submit the wrong documentation.

The R2,000 Is Deductible

If you decide to proceed with ATS for the full compliance process — laboratory submissions, test report validation, and the NRCS LOA application — the R2,000 assessment fee is deducted from your final invoice. In other words, if you use us, the assessment was free. If you don’t, you still walk away with accurate, actionable information.

What We Ask of You

Before you contact us, have the following ready:
  • A clear product description and model number
  • Technical specifications or a datasheet
  • The country of manufacture
  • Any existing test reports (even if you’re unsure whether they’re valid)
With this, we can give you a precise answer. Without it, we’re both guessing — and guessing is expensive.

The Bottom Line

We don’t choose your product. We don’t ship it. We don’t clear it through customs.
We make sure that once it arrives, it can be sold in South Africa without regulatory blockages.
If that’s what you need, contact us — and we’ll tell you exactly what compliance looks like for your product.
